colinlanephoto: One of my favorite Strokes photos, taken January 16, 2001, the day I met them, for The Face magazine. We’d just been busted on top of the Essex House Hotel on Central Park South and I was amazed that they agreed to try a second skyscraper, the Lincoln Building across from Grand Central, that I knew how to sneak up on the roof of. This time it worked and we got there just in time for the sun to dip below the clouds and the Empire State Building to turn on their green lights. It was perfect. I’m convinced it was this little illegal adventure that persuaded the band to choose me to shoot their upcoming press shoot for Is This It. This was pre-9/11….nowadays it’s impossible to get on most roofs without permission. And fees! (Posted on 20/04/2022)
